Choosing The Right Dance Studio For Your Child

The Most Important Questions To Ask

How will I know the teachers are qualified?
It is important to make sure that your child’s instructors are qualified and experienced. Dance instructors are not licensed in this country therefore anyone can teach dance. Our instructors have professional dance training, hold university degrees in dance or related fields or are members of national organizations such as Dance Teachers Club of Boston and/or Dance Masters of America. Student Assistants are a wonderful enhancement to a class but are not qualified or experienced enough to understand the development needed to train a student.

What should I look for in a dance facility?
A dance facility should provide a spacious clean, neat and safe environment. The facility should offer amenities such as a reception area, ample waiting room, rest rooms, view windows for observation of classes or video monitors, full length mirrors, solid, sturdy ballet barres. Our facility offers all of the above as well as a well staffed office, airconditioning and Pro Shop for your dance needs.

Is flooring important for the dance room?
Dance is a very physical activity that requires a lot of jumping which can put stress on bones and joints. Most dance footwear does not provide any cushioning or support so the shock of dance movement can place a lot of pressure on the feet, ankles, shins, knees and backs of dancers. The best way to prevent against potential injury is by choosing a studio that has a floor that is not directly on top of concrete. Our studio has floating floors that are raised with an air cushion between the hardwood floor and the plywood top surface and are covered by professional high grade Marley flooring.

What should I expect for customer service and administrative assistance?
A studio that offers good customer service and assistance should have regular office hours and regular office staff in addition to the faculty teaching classes. Information about policies, costs, payment options, performance schedules, etc. should be clear and concise. Information should be readily available whether through the mail, phone calls and website.
